I have high anxiety about visiting the dentist, as many others do I'm sure. After much research regarding dentists I decided upon Macleod Trail Dental.

Would recommend this place to anyone! The staff is so wonderful. They inform you of all the information you need and answer all your questions. With some anxiety going to the dentist in the first place, they made me feel so comfortable during my appointments. Dr Silver and her team are amazing :)

I don’t visit a dentist office very often, as I’ve never had many problems with my teeth. I’ve had several bad experiences before, so I did a lot of research into different offices before I chose MaLeod Trail Dental. They seemed to be very professional, and had a huge number of great reviews. I have a broken tooth that had a VERY bad infection that had entered my jaw and facial tissue, and caused my face to swell as if I had been hit with a baseball bat. I went to McLeod Trail Dental specifically to deal with this bad tooth and infection, and this is the first time I’ve ever had dental insurance coverage through my job, so I was looking forward to a fairly inexpensive visit. Dr. Silver prescribed some oral antibiotics, and after a few days of those with no improvement, I had to go to the hospital for a couple of rounds of IV antibiotics. My choices to fix the tooth were to have it pulled, have a root canal, or to have an implant. I was given quotes for the different options, and they decided to do some ‘scaling’ on my other teeth while the antibiotics did their job and I made a decision about my bad tooth. Little did I know, that they used up almost HALF of my annual benefits for the ‘scaling’ alone, and then charged me $70 for a ‘polish’ that took less than 5 minutes (without informing me of the cost prior to the service being done), and even charged me for a fluoride treatment, which I didn’t receive, and which I vehemently refused when it was offered. When I asked for more clarification on the pricing for by bad tooth (the ONLY reason I visited the dentist in the first place), I was given 2 more different and convoluted pricing structures that got progressively more expensive. They then told me that I only had half of my benefits remaining, and that the root canal/filling/crown option was going to cost me over $2000 out of pocket. Although I was happy with the actual work that was done by Dr. Silver and Erin, I’m now in a position where I can’t afford to fix my tooth. My options now, are to deal with the broken tooth/exposed nerve until my benefits reset in another year and risk my health with another serious infection, or pay to have it extracted and loose a tooth that could have been saved. When I explained how unprofessional and corrupt the business practices I experienced were, I received a lot of ‘sorry’ from everyone, but saying you’re sorry after the damage has been done, just feels like a slap in the face. When I asked for all my records so I can find a new dentist, my email was ignored, and the business office manager left for a week. I had to go to the office and demand them in person. I will be filing a formal complaint with the Alberta Dental Association and College, and sharing this review wherever I can, so hopefully the next person in my position, will have a real review to counter all the fluff reviews that initially swayed my decision. If money and business ethics don’t matter to you, then this office may serve you well. If on the other hand, you want to deal with an office with sound business ethics, foresight, empathy, respect, and fair/honest pricing, then you’ll probably want to keep looking.

I am in need of some major dental work so my anxiety was even higher prior to my first appointment.

The entire staff was great and put me at ease right from the start. While sitting in the dental chair and talking with the dentist I realized that my anxiety level had dropped significantly. I was surprised and impressed by this fact. I'm not as stressed about my future appointments.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I went into Macleod Trail Dental for a regular checkup and cleaning, and had recently switched benefit providers. Upon arrival to MTD, I gave my new benefits card to the receptionist (which I had been actively using since December 2017 for prescriptions) who thoroughly checked it, entered the details into her system, and scanned the card. She told me everything was good and I could have a seat to wait for my dentist. My dentist arrived and began my appointment without any issue. After approximately 30 minutes of expensive procedures, the office administrator came into the patient room to inform me that my dental benefits do not begin until March 1, 2018, and that the appointment would have to be paid for out of pocket. Panicked, I immediately stopped the procedures and headed to the front desk, where the admin ladies informed me they had been on hold with my benefit company for half an hour, in attempt to find out if my dental befits were active. Instead of immediately informing me, the patient, that they were concerned my benefits may not work, they opted to wait on the phone for half an hour as my "out of pocket" bills were racked up by the minute. Devastated when I heard they had not confirmed my benefits would cover anything, they simply informed my it was "my fault", and charged me full price for barely half a procedure. They then asked if I would like to schedule my next appointment with them? In the past I had gone to MTD a few times and been pleased with their services, but unfortunately due to their poor and costly administration team I will have to take my business elsewhere.
