This would be the first time I have ever "reviewed" a Church.

The leadership at Friends Church would tell you that Friends is a "church for people who don't fit church"... and that's the truth.

I'm 47 now and am incredibly grateful to have stumbled upon Friends Church almost four years ago. I came as a guest to see a friend - he was the guest speaker, "The Spiritual Gym 2.0"

One thing to expect - expect to be challenged, not about faith, but abut being a human being. The Sunday messages will challenge you to love more, to listen and understand more, to celebrate more, to give and invest more into yourself and others, and to not be an asshole. ;-)

I grew up in the Lutheran Church. As a young kid and teenager, the church influenced a lot my beliefs and behviours. it was all that I knew.

I walked away from church at 23 years old. I never lost my faith, I simply lost faith in organized religion, an organization that I felt was blind, in denial, and full of hypocrisy.

I walked into FC with some pretty black and white beliefs about religion and over the past years FC has challenged those beliefs - some of which I still hold true and some are no more.

As I got older and became a young man, experiencing life, and making my own mistakes, I started witnessing changes in society and questioning church doctrine. The answers I got, I either didn't understand, or no longer believed.

FC is a probably the safest place one could ever go to wrestle with one's own spiritual journey. Friends Church welcomes anyone regardless of gender, sexuality, status, and even different faiths... even atheists and agnostics are welcome. That is because a person's own faith and spiritual journey is unique the them - Friends Church is simple a guide in that journey.

The most honest, real and relevant church experience. A very relaxed, come as you are environment. They really get what makes people tick and that they want to be a part of something that makes a difference. And a great place to heal from life's troubles and bad church experiences too. The messages are so good my teens go to hear them!

If you're looking for a place to explore your own spiritual journey, Friends Church is a safe place to visit and experience. We call it the "Spiritual Gym" - no matching gym gear required.

Lastly, in previous church experiences, I leaned a lot about the bible. At Friends Church - which rents space and operates within a Jewish synagogue - any teachings from the bible are in context with the times of the human race. Pretty cool stuff for a human behaviour nerd like me. I've also learned a tonne about Jewish culture, as well as other faiths, which I find absolutely fascinating.
