  I often find MEC expensive. On the other side, however, they tend to offer a selection on many items that simply isn't offered in other retail stores. I find this to be particularly true for hiking backpacks, climbing gear, camping equipment and snowshoes.

  I find the staff extremely helpful here. Their product knowledge is astounding and there's always someone available to give you a hand, even when they get super busy.

  A membership with MEC costs $10 but lasts for lifetime. Parking is $1 in the lot for 2 hours. Street parking or parking in other nearby lots is quite expensive so be warned of this (since it's downtown).

  We had such a great experience buying a cross-country ski package! The staff was extremely knowledgable and patient! Great selection and good prices. We were able to get the bindings put on the same day so we didn't have to rent for our ski vacation!

  Very helpful staff that share in the enthusiasm of outdoor sports. Prices here are typically as good or better than anywhere else including online. Have a good selection of seasonal gear particularly their cross country skis. Great selection of sleeping bags and accessories.

  The staff is always so friendly and enthusiastic here, and ready to jump in to help without ever being overbearing. Great selection and great value. Everything I've ever purchased from MEC has been incredibly durable - I bought a MEC backpack in 2007 and it's in great shape other than being stained and dirty from so much use. I still use it almost every day.

  When you happen to get the attention of a knowledgeable staff member they are great at their job. Too many times though I have not been able to get the help from someone that actually knows what they are talking about. Despite this I will continue to shop here having done my own research as they CAN be helpful, have great products and even better store policies.
