Generally this bike shop is a very interesting place to visit. You never know what you may find or experience while you visit. Good and bad.

Last week I saw on the web site that used bike donations are accepted during any normal operating hours. So I loaded up some bikes in my vehicle and brought them to the shop around 2pm on a Wednesday. The young lady at the shop barely let me donate the bikes because they were "Closed for a special workshop" I had to be persistent in order to donate the bikes. I was not thanked for my donation in any way. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EVEN GO NEAR THIS SHOP ON A WEDNESDAY. YOU WILL BE DENIED SERVICE.

I was able to find parts for my bike successfully, including seat posts with obscure diameters, which would be difficult to find at a bike parts store.

Some are quite helpful and others are borderline abrasive and not interested in helping at all.

It would be amazing if there could be a second DIY shop like this in the north end of the city in the future! The current shop is too far for me to visit very often.

If you go to this store, bear in mind that you will have to fend for yourself, but the parts are reasonably priced if you bike requires some maintenance. I usually watch YouTube videos and just go buy the parts and repair my bikes at home.

I have had two bad experiences at this shop in the past two weeks. Do not sign up for a membership unless absolutely necessary.

Generally, I find the bicycles are overpriced, considering that the lionshare of the bikes are donated for free. This is especially the case when most customers are financially strained and looking for a reliable bike at a reasonable price.

Even though the GEMS workshops don’t apply to me, I am very supportive of these workshops. It’s unfortunate there seems to be confusion about the timing of it. I suggest that perhaps the hours on Google should show the shop as closed to the general public during GEMS workshops. Many that look up the store on Google will not get clarification from the website.

I thought I should give the shop another chance, so I returned to the shop today to see if I could get some repairs and purchase some used parts to fix up my bike. I ended up leaving the shop empty-handed. I had enough money to purchase the parts, and the staff confirmed that the parts were somewhere in the store, but I left without the parts because the staff was unwilling to help me to locate what I needed in their disorganized shop. It might have taken 2 minutes for someone to help me, instead the staff member handed me some kind of stick and told me to figure it out for myself. I wandered around the shop for a couple of minutes and even when I left the staff did not try to stop and ask if they could help me. I was disappointed with this whole experience because I love cycling, I love to repair bikes and the staff at Good Life Community Bicycle Shop really took the wind out of my sails. I will not donate or return to this shop.

Called to see if they could repair my tire. I was told it would not be a problem. I carried my 60lbs electric bike 8 blocks and when I arrived I was told they don't do repairs and to do it myself.

The Wednesday GEM closed session is an awesome concept. Love the idea, but frankly it is scheduled at a terrible time. This type of program should be conducted outside of regular business hours. Wednesday starting at 5pm would be my recommendation. Discrimination is not acceptable and refusing service to males on Wednesday is contradictory to the concept of the store.

Great deals on used bikes. But be prepared to wait :)
